Stage 0 Melanoma (melanoma in situ Tis)

You may have been diagnosed with an extremely early stage melanoma (referred to as Stage 0). This means that the tumour is still confined to the upper layer of the skin which means that the cancer cells are still only in the outer layer of your skin and have not grown any deeper (in situ melanoma, or Tis). Anyone diagnosed with a Stage 0 melanoma will be considered at very low risk for local recurrence and/or regional and distant metastases. It is always worth remembering when reading statistics that stats shown are usually estimates based on large populations of patients, and may not be directly applicable to individual patients.
