Joe Warren-Plant, Emmerdale’s Jacob Gallagher took time from busy filming recently, to lend his support the national charity, Melanoma UK.

Attending a fundraising event at Blackpool Cricket Club, Joe met several Melanoma UK representatives and some melanoma patients. Emmerdale recently featured skin cancer in one of its story lines, so Joe is no stranger to the detail.

Speaking at the event, Diane Cannon, Melanoma UK’s corporate director, said “It’s been lovely to meet Joe and his family today. He has signed the Sunbed ban petition and recorded a short piece to let his fans know of his support”

The fundraiser was the brainchild of Julie Spencer, herself a melanoma patient. She held an It’s a knockout family day which is now in its second year, raising more funds for Melanoma UK.

Joe recorded a short piece in support of the sunbed ban, saying “I’m in full support of the UK sunbed ban”.

Joe is featured here with Diane Cannon, Andy Worthington and Julie Spencer.

Melanoma is now the 5th most common cancer in the UK and Melanoma UK is calling for a ban on sunbeds, asking the Government to look at Australia and Brazil for guidance. By the year 2025 it is estimated that the NHS will be spending £465 million on treating skin cancer patients. A sunbed ban would indirectly support the NHS.
