MEET OUR NEW MEDICAL ADVISOR

Meet Dr. Zena Willsmore, our new Medical Advisor specialising in immunotherapy in melanoma patients.

Dr Willsmore is a Dermatology Specialist Registrar in London and is currently completing a PhD at King's College London.

She undertook medical training at Imperial College London, graduating with Honours and Distinctions in 2010. Zena also completed an intercalated Bachelor of Science degree in Endocrinology in 2008.

Zena underwent general medical training in London before starting dermatology training in 2014.

In 2019 she was awarded a Cancer Research UK Clinical Fellowship to carry out research to complete a PhD which is ongoing.

Her research focuses on mechanisms of action of immunotherapy in melanoma patients.

Melanoma UK is delighted to have Dr Willsmore join the Melanoma UK team.

May Brothers On Tour - Barcelona Marathon

On Sunday 10th March, myself and my brother Garry will be running the Barcelona Marathon in aid of Melanoma UK for a cause close to our hearts.

Melanoma UK provides patients and families with the much-needed support right from the point of diagnosis. Through education, advocacy and research, Melanoma UK strives to increase the awareness, understanding and prevention of melanoma skin cancer, which is the 5th most common cancer in the UK.

CHMP RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF OPDIVO (NIVOLUMAB)

Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended approval of Opdivo (nivolumab) as a monotherapy for the adjuvant treatment of adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older with completely resected stage IIB or IIC melanoma.

Do You Know Your ABC...DE's? The ABCDE Rule of skin cancer is an easy-to-remember system for determining whether a mole or growth may be cancerous.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

About half of all melanomas start with a change in previously normal-looking skin. This usually looks like a dark area or an abnormal new mole.
SKIN SELF EXAMINATION

We recommend that you do a head-to-toe self-examination of your skin every month. This way you can find any new or changing lesions that might be cancerous or precancerous.
STAGES OF MELANOMA

The stage of a cancer is a term used to describe the size and depth of the melanoma, and whether it has spread. Knowing the stage of your cancer helps doctors decide on the best treatment for you.
