Given that Melanoma UK is such an influential charity in supporting melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer patients when we were asked to support the Skin Cancer Surgery Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) initiative we didn't hesitate to offer our support.

What initially started out as circulating the Skin Cancer Surgery PSP survey to as many people as possible across the UK who have had surgery for melanoma (including primary and local/regional recurrence) has now led to our Corporate Partnership Director, Di Cannon, joining the PSP Steering Group.

It was clear that Di could bring a wealth of experience both as a skin cancer patient and charity representative for Melanoma UK to the PSP Steering Group so she jumped at the chance.

What is The Skin Cancer Surgery PSP?

The Skin Cancer Surgery PSP was established in 2020 to bring together patients, carers and clinicians to identify the most important unanswered questions related to surgical treatment for all types of skin cancer. The results of the PSP will help focus and prioritise future research efforts related to this topic in order to improve patient outcomes for those being treated for skin cancer.

The project stems from the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network and the British Society for Dermatological Surgery in conjunction with The James Lind Alliance to undertake a Skin Cancer Surgery Priority Setting Partnership (PSP).

The outcomes are likely to shape future research goals for skin cancer surgery as they will be closely followed by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
