It was a tweet from MelanomaUK that caught my eye.

It was about sunbeds and as someone whose career has been treating skin cancers, I was intrigued to know more about the tweet and about MelanomaUK.

A few messages and phone calls with Gillian Nuttall brought me into the MelanomaUK universe and soon I was appointed as their first plastic surgeon medical adviser.

I have since represented the charity on BBC 5live podcasts as well as providing advice to the Charity when required.

I am a lead run director for my local parkrun and have taken part in many triathlons and marathons including a number of Ironman events at home and abroad, as well as marathons in Manchester, Spain and the classic one, Marathon to Athens.

All this might make me sound like a fitness freak, yet I am not, I just try to stay fit whilst providing medical care to skin cancer patients based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital Skin Unit and to the wider area with my role for HEE England.

Having been injured whilst training 2 years ago, it has been a long slow struggle to get back to some form of fitness, but this is nothing compared to what my patients have to go through with their treatments.

Therefore supporting this amazing charity through fundraising whilst doing events that I enjoy (especially when completed) is another way I can help both my and colleagues' patients throughout the United Kingdom.

Please support me!
