Introducing On The Spot!

It is and probably always will be, a standing joke, that I do not get along with technology.  There are times when I long for the days of typewriters, copy paper, old fashioned switch boards, pencils, carbon paper, telex machines….. my nostalgic list is endless. 

However, during lockdown and for the foreseeable future, I have to say that I have been and will remain, very grateful for some of the technology that we are now able to access. 

At the beginning of lockdown, we had a number of shielding patients contact us to say that they needed some help with shopping.  We put a message out via social media, and within twenty four hours, we had several areas covered with volunteers. We knew that the effects of lockdown would have a real impact on the melanoma community and all the events that we had planned for 2020 were cancelled immediately. 

Diane Cannon told me that we would be using Zoom to bring our patients together…. (the only Zoom I was familiar with were the ice lollies I loved as a child….).  So, Zoom it was, and every Thursday since the first week of lockdown, we have held weekly calls with patients.  Not only did we have calls where we just chatted amongst ourselves, we also had presentations from some of our medical advisors and partners.
